Before Wednesday October 28, 2020 (7 Days Before The Election)

An application for the regular absentee voting period must be received in your county clerk’s office by the 6th day before each election.

After Tuesday October 27, 2020

Even after the regular abentee voting ballot application deadline, you may request an emergency absentee ballot if you are hospitalized on or after the seventh day preceding an election.

Tuesday November 3, 2020 (Election Day)

For regular absentee voting, in order for your ballot to be counted, it must be mailed and postmarked by Election Day and received by the start of Canvass. You may also deliver your ballot through an agent by the day before Election Day. If you request a ballot through the emergency absentee ballot process, your ballot will be delivered to you directly by a team of two ballot commissioners, who will be responsible for returning your ballot as well.

STEP-BY-STEP HOW TO VOTE

1.

Check Your Voter Registration

Check if you are registered to vote at https://ovr.sos.wv.gov/Register/Landing or at https://www.vote.org/.

2.

Complete an Emergency Absentee Ballot Application

You may qualify for an emergency absentee ballot if you are hospitalized on or after the seventh day preceding an election, have resided in a nursing home within your county for less than 30 days, or are otherwise confined due to illness, injury, physical disability, immobility due to advanced age, or another medical reason. In order to receive your ballot, you must call your County Clerk to request this. The contact information for your County Clerk can be found here.

3.

Return Your Application

Your filled-out emergency absentee ballot must be mailed or delivered by a personal agent to your County Clerk.

4.

Obtain Your Ballot

Your County Clerk will appoint a team of two ballot commissioners to meet you at your place of hospitalization and deliver your ballot for you to fill out.

5.

Vote!

Fill out your ballot! 

6.

Return Your Completed Ballot

The team of two ballot commissioners who delivered your ballot to your place of hospitalization will be responsible for returning your ballot to your County Clerk to be counted.

Voters that are confined to a healthcare facility or replacing a poll worker on Election Day qualify for an emergency absentee ballot. Upon the request for an emergency absentee ballot, two commissioners (one from each party) can deliver the emergency absentee ballot to a healthcare facility.
